REGISTRATIONS:

Q) How long will it take to register my domain name?
A) The time frame of a registration usually takes about 12-24 hours to complete, provided the registration form is filled out correctly. As soon as you received a confirmation email from us, your domain is officially registered. However, the activation of your domain name will take up to 72 hours. Until then, you will not be able to use your new domain name. This is to allow the information of the new domain to be propagated properly.

Q) What do I get with my Domain name registration?
A)
Click here to see the list of services you get when you register a domain name with us.

Q) Once my Domain name is registered, can anyone else take it?
A)
The Domain is registered in your name. So long as it has active DNS entries, all the required fees are paid and it's not in breach of any law, nobody else can either use it or take it without your consent.

Q) I received a confirmation message. Why does my Domain name still appear to be available in a Whois search?
A)
It can take up to 72 hours for some domain names to be updated in the Whois server. If you've received a confirmation from us, you can be sure that it's registered.

Q) Can I cancel a registration after submitting the form?
A)
Sorry, no. Once the registration process has been initiated it can't be canceled, so please check your domains carefully before submitting the order.

Q) Do I need to register all three domain name extensions: .com, .net and .org?
A)
You will realize that the expense for domain name registration and support is minor compared to the marketing expense to promote and establish your domain name in the marketplace. The last thing you want to happen is to have someone else (your competitor in most cases) benefit from your efforts in establishing your name. You will see competitors registering names close to yours, trying to benefit from typos your visitors may make. For example, someone registered internik.net in order to piggyback on the reputable internic.net. We strongly recommend that you register all 3 domain extensions for your business, service or products.

NAME SERVERS

Q) What is a DNS (Domain Name Server)?
A)
A domain name server is similar to a phone book. It tells the Internet programs (e.g. web browsers) where to go by translating the domain name into an Internet (IP) address. Every Internet Service Provider (ISP) has its own DNS servers. You need at least 2 DNS server names to specify who is hosting your web site.

Q) Where do I get information about the DNS?
A)
Typically you will get the DNS information from your web hosting company. The DNS information consists of letters and or digits separated by periods (.). Example: NS1.ABAC.COM

Q) How do I get to the page to change the name servers for my domain name?
A)
Click on the word “Domain Manager” at the top of this page. Type in your domain name and password. Click on the word "Nameservers" near the top of the page. After changes have been made, click on "Modify".

Q) Can I use other name servers besides those supplied by Cheap Domain Name Registrar?
A)
Yes, you can use any name servers that you like, as long as they are already known to the registry.

Q) When I try to change my name servers, there is an error, why is this?
A)
The name of the name servers might not be registered at the central Registry.

Q) How do I get to the page to modify or alter my domain information?
A)
You log in to the "Domain Manager", click on "Contact Information" to change any of your domain information.

Q) I transferred my domain to your name servers today but my site is not coming up, why?
A)
Moving a domain name can take a couple of days. First, the central registry has to update their databases and over the weekends they can be a bit slow. This can take up to a day sometimes. Besides that, each and every ISP has to cache the new registry database and this can take a few days although normally 1-2. This is called "caching-delay" and can best be avoided by NOT trying to reload your domain name every 5 minutes after you just submitted a transfer request. When you do this your local ISP (network dialup provider) is going to cache the old DNS information. Normally, a local ISP will only update once per day so even if Whois shows your DNS information updated, your local ISP may still be using yesterday's database. This always clears up after 1-2 days. The good thing is that its usually only the domain name owner that will experience the caching delay. Normal site visitors that haven't visited your website recently will not have cached the old DNS information and will be able to get to your site even though you may not. So the best thing to do is send in the transfer request, then wait until Whois updates before calling up your website in your browser.
